Known to the Scottish locals as:
'The Hoose of Troosers’
The Inn was once a changing point for Seil Islanders to change from kilts into trousers before crossing Clachan Sound to the mainland. Scotsmen found themselves outlawed in the wearing of kilts and speaking in native Gaelic tongue following the Jacobite Rebellion in 1745. The accumulation of forgotten trousers when Islanders returned to their homes in their native dress (and failing to return) is what led to the name.
